Dandruff & Dry Scalp Relief ... The Natural Way

For years I struggled with dry, flaky scalp and I tried nearly everything imaginable to get rid of it. Nothing cured my problem.

About two years ago I discovered the Poo Free method and my life has never been the same {read more about this method here}. In going Poo Free I learned of the science of how shampoos and conditioners work and what they do to your hair and scalp.
Shampoo is loaded with chemicals, one of them being mineral oil. When gasoline is distilled from crude oil you get mineral oil. Mineral oil is added to shampoo to coat your hair and give it shine after it has been stripped of it's natural oils. Mineral oil cannot be absorbed by your skin so it coats your scalp and prevents natural oils and toxins from being released by your skin. Over time your hair becomes weaker and more prone to damage and your scalp suffers in the process. This is where conditioners come in. They cover up the damage done by shampooing. But conditioners are just as bad for your scalp and hair. They may not strip your hair and scalp but they will smother them with chemicals and oils that do more harm than good.
Conventional shampoos, no matter the claim, can actually cause or worsen dry scalp and dandruff. A healthy scalp needs the natural oils it produces to keep it healthy. When you start stripping the natural oils away and adding synthetic ingredients in it's place you will get trapped in a cycle where you more-or-less become dependent on haircare products to have the appearance of a health head of hair. The Poo Free method will help begin to break the cycle and allow your scalp to work the way it was intended, in turn giving you beautiful hair and a healthy scalp.

But for those who have persistent or occassional dandruff and/or dry, flaky scalp you will need to add this step into your routine. Don't worry, it add about 60 seconds and is super easy.

To make this rinse you will need
clean squirt bottle
distilled white vinegar
water

What to do
Fill it bottle half way with distilled white vinegar. Add water to the vinegar until the bottle is full. Apply this to your scalp only before you wet and wash your hair. You will find that you won't use very much because you are just squirting enough to wet your scalp. Gently massage your scalp, pay special attention to problem areas. Allow to sit for about one minute, then rinse thoroughly. Follow up with the mixture for the Poo Free method.

After about 2-3 washings you will notice a huge difference. Your scalp will not feel as tight and itchy and you will notice fewer flakes! I use this almost every time I was my hair to avoid any flare ups. If I go more than 2-3 washings without using this my flakes and build-up return. If you are not seeing improvement try adding 10 drops of tea tree essential oil to your rinse.

How it works
Dandruff is caused by a little micro organism called a fungus {yummy}. These organisms feed on sebum {an oil the skin naturally produces} which irritates the scalp. Trying to soothe itself the scalp creates creates more skin cells, which build up and cause flaking. You can see why most store-bought shampoos just intensify this cycle.

Vinegar contains enzymes that fight bacterial and adjust pH. When used on the scalp, vinegar shifts the pH of the scalp, making the environment for these fungi intollerable. It also removes any build-up without stripping the scalp or hair follicles. The scalp can then work the way it is supposed to. A healthy scalp has healthy hair.

I have used this method for nearly two years and will never go back to store bought shampoos. It's safer, it's cheaper and it's highly effective. I have even used this rinse on my children and had amazing results.

If you give this a try, come back and let me know! I would love to hear your story!
